Recognizing the expanding opportunities in Vietnam, in 1989 Tilleke & Gibbins established Tilleke & Gibbins Consultants Limited to provide investment and legal consulting services for businesses engaged in commercial activities in Vietnam.

Pioneers in the application of current Vietnamese law for commercial practice, Tilleke & Gibbins Consultants Limited began traveling to Vietnam long before interest in the country was shown by other law firms. The Firm's early perseverance led to breaking through many barriers and in July 1992, Tilleke & Gibbins became the first foreign law firm to be granted a license to establish a representative office in Vietnam. The office, situated in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's commercial center, was followed by the establishment in January 1994 of a representative branch office in Hanoi, the nation's capital. Both offices were awarded full branch law office licenses in 1996.

Tilleke & Gibbins has recently expanded its Vietnam practice with new Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City office facilities and a strong team of experienced Vietnamese and foreign Intellectual Property and Corporate/Commercial lawyers. The firm's Vietnam intellectual property law practice has been recognized by many leading publications. In this regard, in 2009, the firm's Vietnam IP practice was shortlisted for the Vietnam IP Law Firm of the Year award by Managing Intellectual Property, and was named a top-tier intellectual property law firm in Vietnam by Chambers Asia, The Asia Pacific Legal 500, and Asia IP. The firm's particular strength in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology has been recognized by ACQ Finance, which named Tilleke & Gibbins as the Life Sciences Law Firm of the Year – Vietnam for 2009.
